Fulton County Extension Connections Newsletter w. IRN.pdfAccessing Stimulus Funding
Among the priorities unveiled by the Recovery Act, stimulus funding is meant to create more than 3.5 million jobs over the next two years, and invest in the cities impacted by the economic crisis. In Illinois, more than $10 billion in stimulus federal funds for projects ranging from services for older individuals who are blind to grants preventing violence against women have been awarded to nonprofits and units of government.

Brownfields Grant Writing Conference: Why you should attend?
July 24, 2009
7706_brownfield.workshop.jpgWHAT ARE BROWNFIELDS?
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency defines brownfields as "real property, the expansion, redevelopment, or reuse of which may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant, or contaminant." A brownfield may be anything from a shuttered factory to a former gas station to an empty lot. It may or may not in fact be contaminated. Testing and remediating a brownfield can yield an array of benefits to a community, including a cleaner environment, better public health, new jobs and an increased tax base.
WHAT GRANTS ARE AVAILABLE?
U.S. EPA offers three main types of grants for assessing and cleaning up brownfields. Learn more about these grants and the amounts that are available for funding in this area at the workshop.
WHAT WILL THIS WORKSHOP COVER?
The workshop will provide details about the types of grants and activities they fund; eligibility to apply; how a site can be assessed and cleaned up; program requirements; how to address each element of the grant applications; and informational and technical assistance resources. They will also present case studies on successful projects in Illinois.
